Research and Policy

The Africa Research Institute is commissioning a series of papers to highlight ideas which have worked in Africa and identify areas where new ideas are needed.

These include proposals for the better use of aid, parliamentary strengthening, the role of companies in public policy, evaluating NGO programmes, lessons from military and police reform, drug resistance, vouchers and subsidies, education, agriculture, and Africa’s oil boom.

We aim to encourage more informed debate which recognises the diversity of Africa today – and the importance of relevant international comparisons.

Africa Research Institute is compiling a handbook of political and economic models, highlighting the dominant features of a wide range of countries. We are also working on a series of regional case studies, to assess the changing relationship between African countries and other nations – including Brazil, China and the United States.
